Position Summary

The project will provide structured basic literacy and numeracy support for first-time learners from the Manta community in Barishal through a customised module focused on Bangla reading, writing, number recognition, and basic arithmetic. Following a baseline assessment, regular learning sessions (approximately five per week) will be conducted by a digital teacher with support from a local facilitator, and children will receive essential learning materials to reinforce progress. To ensure engagement and retention, the programme will also integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) activities—such as games, storytelling, drawing, and group tasks- to build confidence, communication skills, and positive learning behaviour in a safe, child-friendly environment.

Job Responsibilities

1. Academic Instruction & Facilitation

  • Deliver structured basic literacy and numeracy lessons through digital platforms (approximately five sessions per week).
  • Teach Bangla reading, writing, letter recognition, number recognition, and basic arithmetic tailored to first-time learners.
  • Adapt lesson delivery to suit children with no prior schooling experience.
  • Ensure child-friendly, interactive, and inclusive learning sessions.

2. Lesson Planning & Module Implementation

  • Follow and effectively implement the customised basic education module.
  • Prepare digital lesson plans aligned with baseline assessment findings.
  • Integrate visual, audio, and interactive digital content to enhance learning.
  • Modify teaching strategies based on children's progress and learning gaps.

3. Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) Integration

  • Incorporate structured SEL activities such as storytelling, games, drawing, and group exercises.
  • Create a safe and emotionally supportive virtual learning environment.
  • Promote confidence, communication skills, cooperation, and positive behaviour among learners.

4. Assessment & Monitoring

  • Support baseline and endline learning assessments.
  • Track student attendance and participation.
  • Monitor individual learning progress and identify struggling learners.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Project Coordinator/Management.

5. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate closely with the local facilitator for classroom management and child support.
  • Participate in online teacher training and refresher sessions.
  • Engage in periodic review meetings with project management.
  • Support reporting requirements as needed.

6. Safeguarding & Child Protection

  • Maintain child safeguarding standards during digital sessions.
  • Ensure respectful, non-discriminatory engagement with all learners.
  • Immediately report any protection concerns following organisational protocols.

Qualifications & Experience 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Bangla, Social Science, or any relevant discipline.
  • Training in digital education or online teaching will be considered an advantage.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of teaching experience (experience with first-generation or out-of-school learners preferred).
  • Experience in delivering online or digital learning sessions.
  • Familiarity with basic literacy and numeracy teaching methods.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong digital facilitation skills (Zoom/Google Meet/other online platforms).
  • Ability to teach foundational Bangla literacy and basic mathematics.
  • Lesson planning and student assessment skills.
  • Strong communication and classroom engagement skills.
  • Child-friendly and patient teaching approach.
  • Understanding of social and emotional learning (SEL).
  • Ability to work with marginalised and first-time learners.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education principles.
